The flow of microbial nucleic acids (and microbial cells) from the rumen can be determined non-invasively by prediction from urinary excretion of purine derivatives (PD) including allantoin. Excretion of allantoin is not, however, entirely via the urine. To better understand the kinetics of allantoin in sheep, we quantified a compartmental model of allantoin-C flows in the body.en
