Abstract: Time (Tid - noun), Temporality (Timelighed - noun), Eternity (Evighed - noun). The Danish 'Tid' is derived from the Old Danish 'tith' and the Old Norse 'tio'. From the same root, English derives "tide" (cf. "yuletide"). 'Tid' is used of a (delimiting) point in a non-spatial sequence of (changing) states or events, or is represented as a one-dimensional line, in contrast to three-dimensional space. 'Timelighed' is used of that which pertains to time, and is contrasted with eternity. It is derived from the Old Norse 'timme', meaning "time, span of time, passage of time." 'Evighed' is a loan word from Middle Low German 'ewich', which corresponds to the Old Norse 'ævi', meaning "life time."
