Abstract: Bob Herbert is a third generation Australian, born 1923 in Yea, Victoria. During W.W.II he served in the AIF and then the RAAF. After demobilization he went to sea as a ship's radio officer. By then he was writing short stories, but after seeing Laurence Olivier's production of a 'School For Scandal' in Brisbane he spent his next voyage writing a play.
