local.abstract.english | Schneider has created a compilation of ten illustrated stories written in the Apma language. The second half of the book provides English translations for each story. The book is the result of a collaboration between Schneider and the local community. The stories were narrated by Apma speakers from around Central Pentecost. With the assistance of an Apma-speaking consultant, Schneider recorded, transcribed, and translated them. The stories contain illustrations created by students at Ranwadi High School in Central Pentecost. Ultimately, the book is a by-product of Schneider's ongoing research into Apma's phonology (sound system), morphology (word structure), syntax (sentence structure) and discourse structure, and it synthesises traditional knowledge with modern interpretations of that knowledge as exemplified in the illustrations from high school students. | en |
