This collection of essays forms part of the large scale European Legal Development Project which considered changes in fault-based liability in Europe between 1850 and 2000. The focus of this collection is the role of institutions and professions during this period, other volumes being concerned with social, political, and economic ideas, although the pervasiveness of these latter themes means that they also feature to some extent in this volume.en
