Abstract: Swimming, whether as a leisure pursuit or as a competitive sport, has until recently been an under researched area within sports historiography. This is somewhat surprising considering the dominance, both currently and in previous decades, of Australia within the international competitive swimming arena. ... The celebratory text 'Footscray Swimming and Water Polo Clubs: One Hundred Years, 1909-2009', goes some way to addressing this neglected topic by providing detailed records and statistics on one of the most prominent and successful clubs within the city and state during the 20th century.
