The Aim of QuickSmart Literacy is to help students become faster and better at recognising words as they read, so they can understand what they are reading. Reading slowly and missing out words that are unknown, or spending too long trying to work them out, makes it harder to remember what has been read, and to make sense out of the text. In QuickSmart lessons, words from texts are practised so they are recognised automatically when reading, as well as strategies taught to help work out unknown words. Comprehension strategies are also taught and practised to help in gaining meaning from reading. This folder will be a record of: texts read in QuickSmart lessons, the words studied for each text, graphs showing the progress made in becoming faster and more accurate in recognising these words, graphs showing progress on words from the OZCAAS lists (a computer based assessment system developed for Australian learners), strategies for comprehension, and independent reading.en
