HERDC Category Description: C1 Refereed Article in a Scholarly Journal
English Abstract: The article deals with the authorship of the French tragedy 'Le Martyre de Sᵗᵉ Catherine' ('The Martyrdom of St Catherine'), published in verse in 1649. It seeks to refute the generally accepted view that François Hédelin, abbé d'Aubignac is the author either of this play or of an original prose play upon which the versified adaptation was based. The article concludes that 'Le Martyre de Sᵗᵉ Catherine' is likely the work of St. Germain, the mysterious author of the tragi-comedy 'Le Grand Timoléon de Corinthe', published in 1642.
