Abstract: The present issue opens with a fine theoretical essay from the University of Nottingham. The paper on the aboriginal-settler contact in the Lachlan area is published here because of our many members in that area, and to be put against earlier essays printed in the Journal, especially R.B. Walker's, in Journal 4 (1962), Sharon Sullivan's in Journal 8 (1965), and B. Norton's in Journal 15 (1972). It may also be noted here that the checklist of Aboriginal theses concerned with the North contains the names of a number of scholars who have contributed to this Journal, namely: B.J. Bridges; I.C. Campbell; Frances H. Lovejoy; M. Pearson; Judith Murray-Prior; B.E. Richardson; and Sharon Sullivan.
