Title: | Australian Electricity Supply: Orientations to Growth and Prospects for Sustainability | Contributor(s): | Smith, Gregory Owen (author) | Publication Date: | 2007 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/11035 | Abstract: | In the new competitive order, Australian electricity systems have been oriented to growth of electricity sales based on low margins and the capture of market share. Electricity is a premium fuel. The second law of thermodynamics testifies to this, as does the relationship between coal-fired electricity and the negative externality of greenhouse warming. Electricity prices should reflect its status as a premium fuel. Ease of transition in such a regime would be fostered by the taking up of options for energy efficiency and renewable sources of supply. | Publication Type: | Conference Publication | Conference Details: | ANZEE 2007: Australia New Zealand Society for Ecological Economics 2007 Conference, Noosa, Australia, 3rd - 6th July, 2007 | Source of Publication: | 2007 ANZSEE Conference Papers (Theme 4: Resource Management), p. 1-11 | Publisher: | Australia and New Zealand Society for Ecological Economics (ANZSEE) | Place of Publication: | Online | Fields of Research (FoR) 2008: | 140214 Public Economics- Publically Provided Goods | Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) 2008: | 910204 Industry Costs and Structure | HERDC Category Description: | E2 Non-Refereed Scholarly Conference Publication | Publisher/associated links: | http://anzsee.org/anzsee2007papers/Abstracts/Smith.Greg.pdf http://anzsee.org/?page_id=106 |
