Abstract: I have been out of the country of my birth from young manhood, but my early years there seem to remain even more clearly, despite the passing years. I still have many sharp memories from when I was a child at primary school in Dunedin, just before and at the beginning of World War II. I remember the primary school yard and the behaviour of my peers there, and certain distinctive characteristics of the society of the time stand out clearly...
