Pathways towards developing effective partnerships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal organizations are examined from the perspectives of two people engaged in the process from Kulai Aboriginal Preschool and the University of New England. Their experiences of a participatory action research project are described, along with techniques used to map the process. These techniques allowed the participants to visualise the challenges and opportunities involved in workplace learning. Barrera & Corso's (2003) model of skilled dialogue through respect, reciprocity and responsiveness as core elements in communication is explored in this context. The importance of taking time to develop relationships and cultural awareness are critiqued in relation to day-to-day operations and future developments.en
