Someone had carelessly turned the radio on much too loud so that the speaker screamed out the weather forecast, sometimes hoarsely, sometimes scarcely audibly: "The ridge of high pressure which has been moving from the British Isles to the south-west for several days is now losing its strength but is proceeding towards our coasts. The air stream with its high humidity has been transformed into thick fog..." "The devil take this fog," grumbled the banker. "Now, of course, my plane will not take off." "Neither will mine," said the professor with a serious expression, and pushed his plate nervously aside. "Waiter, will you please go and see what is going to happen to the 6.40 Constellation." "Gentlemen, gentlemen," the fashion-king said to them serenely, "what's the use of this worrying? What does it matter if we should have to stay here? Nothing at all! As for me, I should even be glad, as Amsterdam is a beautiful city full of wonderful possibilities in the way of entertainment." Attentive, absent-minded and angry glances were turned towards him. But his broad face, chubby and beaming, remained calm and undisturbed. The famous leader and ruler of the world of fashion was certain of the power which he had acquired with his enormous wealth and before which heads had inclined and backs and opinions bowed low. At this moment he was speaking in English with grammatical errors and mispronunciations, but he was not ashamed of this either, since his self-confidence was unlimited.

The NE Si gel dataset refers to records of the N.C.W. Beadle Herbarium where associated collections of plant material dried on silica gel to preserve DNA for later extraction in molecular systematics and DNA fingerprinting studies of plants were made at the time of collection of the herbarium voucher. The New England National Park dataset of records for the N.C.W. Beadle Herbarium is a rich dataset, vouching for the occurrence in time and space of most plant species of the New England National Park, east of Armidale, NSW Australia. These records substantiate the plant species lists in Clarke PJ, Copeland LM, Noble NE, Bale CL, Williams JB (2000) 'The vegetation and plant species of New England National Park.' (Botany, University of New England: Armidale) and are a valuable conservation tool for the Park. The dataset is continually growing and intersects with other Herbarium NE datasets including the NE Types dataset. The N.C.W. 'Spirit collection of the N.C.W. Beadle Herbarium' refers to specimens, mostly adjunct to dried and pressed specimen, fixed and preserved in liquid media. Most specimens have been fixed in FAA or FPA or ethanol. Most specimens are held in 70% ethanol. Specimens are generally available for both non-destructive and destructive sampling for taxonomic and other systematic botanical studies. In a few cases, the spirit material represents the primary material of the gathering. Much of the spirit collection is focused on research active groups such as Cyperaceae, Phyllanthaceae and Cucurbitaceae. Work is currently underway to update the N.C.W.
