It is tempting to think that people a century from now will look upon today's plethora of tertiary admission regulations with a bemused shake of the head. In the meantime, it is a reality with which we must live as best we can and fathom to the best of our ability. In this brief closing chapter, we shall discuss the factors that influence university admission policies - 'massification', university autonomy and comparability issues - before addressing the option of conducting university entrance examinations that are separate from end-of-school certification examinations. We shall end by attempting to answer the question which we beg through the subtitle of this book: Is the global university system indeed moving towards commonality in admission procedures?en
