Title: | Conclusion: Between Two Civilizations (redux) | Contributor(s): | Cable, Charlotte (author) ; Thornton, Christopher P (author) | Publication Date: | 2016 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/20326 | Abstract: | This book began by placing ancient Oman between the great powers of Mesopotamia and the Indus Civilization. Studies of ancient "Magan" -particularly the Omani side- have been far more limited than in these two areas, and the now-defunct core-periphery narrative that has pervaded archaeological research in the Arabian Peninsula and Southern Iran for decades is a reflection of that lacuna. As numerous scholars have noted, we must first understand the local and regional situation before we can truly understand interregional dynamics. To do so, however, we must have a cultural and chronological baseline and a basic understanding of the types of monuments that define these archaeological periods. | Publication Type: | Book Chapter | Source of Publication: | The Bronze Age Towers at Bat, Sultanate of Oman: Research by the Bat Archaeological Project, 2007-2012, p. 259-261 | Publisher: | University of Pennsylvania, Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology | Place of Publication: | Philadelphia, United States of America | ISBN: | 9781934536063 | Fields of Research (FoR) 2008: | 210199 Archaeology not elsewhere classified | Fields of Research (FoR) 2020: | 430104 Archaeology of Europe, the Mediterranean and the Levant | Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) 2008: | 970121 Expanding Knowledge in History and Archaeology | Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) 2020: | 280113 Expanding knowledge in history, heritage and archaeology 280114 Expanding knowledge in Indigenous studies |
