The fourteen papers given at the University of New England, N.S.W., to the Second Annual Conference of the Mythopoeic Literature Society of Australia in July 1986 make up the contents of this small book. The main differences from the order in which the papers were then given are: the alternation of the first and second papers; and a like change with the tenth and eleventh, to the present arrangement. Some of the speakers elected to provide longer texts, some shorter versions of the papers as delivered. Editorship has been construed as a need for: clarity in reference; a greater consistency in style; and the provision of an index to assist readers to locate certain critical observations and to compare the various references to the same writer or concept. As will be obvious from the 'contents', the theme and venue would appear to have worked together to produce a pleasing collection of essays on fantasy themes, all of which may be said to be inter-related in more ways than the general topic would suggest.en
