Past Human Migrations in East Asia: Matching archaeology, linguistics and genetics

Abstract

This volume arose out of an international conference, 'Human Migrations in Continental East Asia and Taiwan', organized by Alicia Sanchez-Mazas, Marie Lin and Ilia Peiros in Geneva, Switzerland, 10-13 June 2004. Twenty-five geneticists, linguists and archaeologists were invited to present their most recent results, and about twenty additional researchers and students came of their own accord to listen to the talks and participate in the discussions. The idea of an inter-disciplinary conference on this topic was not new; it followed a workshop organized three years earlier (29-31 August 2001) by Laurent Sagart and the late Stanley Starosta in Perigueux, which also gave birth to a major publication, 'The Peopling of East Asia: Putting Together Archaeology, Linguistics and Genetics' (ed. Sagart, Blench and Sanchez-Mazaz, Routledge Curzon, 2005).
