Abstract: This ninth edition of Laying Down the Law marks the thirtieth anniversary of the text. First published in 1985, at a slim 239 pages, the book has been expanded to over 600 pages. Users of the book who are familiar with the previous edition will notice several changes. These mean the book continues to reflect developments of contemporary interest in legal education. They include an increased focus on international law principles and on Indigenous legal issues, a renewed interest in legal theory and in ethical practice, and an emphasis on resolving disputes outside the courtroom.
