Abstract |
The Aspidogastrea is a small group of about 80 freshwater and marine species. It is the sister group of the digeneans, both groups included in the Class Trematoda (Littlewood et al. 1999). The main characteristics distinguishing the group from the Digenea is the presence of an attachment organ consisting of many suckerlets, rugae or alveoli, and a lack of a complex life cycle involving larvae that multiply.
