Abstract: This phenomenological study of the lived experiences of fathers reading to their children inquires into the emerging themes of time experienced, who is this child?, son and father a pedagogical relationship, light and dark and transformative learning. As these themes are investigated and discussed the connecting and overall theme emerges. This overall theme is one of the father recognising the otherness of his child within the sacred space that he creates by reading to his child.
