Abstract: Local government managers, elected representatives, and state and Commonwealth government policy officers necessarily focus much of their time and energy on economic questions. Moreover, a rapidly growing complexity in municipal operations has given rise to undergraduate and graduate university courses and professional accreditation programs aimed at improving the skills of decision makers in Australian local government. A text on the economics of Australian local government has become imperative. The present volume represents our response to this need.
