Title: | Impact of Labour Migration on Farm Efficiency: A Study of Maize Farming in Northern Thailand | Contributor(s): | Nonthakot, Phanin (author); Villano, Renato (author) | Publication Date: | 2009 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/7767 | Abstract: | This paper investigates the relationship between labour migration and agricultural productivity in the Northern Province of Thailand. Drawing on maize production data from a household survey, an estimate of stochastic production function to evaluate the effects of migration, remittances and salient characteristics of migrants on the mean maize output and levels of technical efficiency was tried. Evidence shows that remittances and number of migrant workers facilitate maize production. It was also found that remittances, duration of migration, gender and education of migrants enhance the productive capacity of maize farmers. | Publication Type: | Journal Article | Source of Publication: | Asia-Pacific Journal of Rural Development, XIX(2), p. 1-16 | Publisher: | Centre on International Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) | Place of Publication: | India | ISSN: | 1018-5291 | Fields of Research (FoR) 2008: | 140201 Agricultural Economics 070106 Farm Management, Rural Management and Agribusiness |
