Title: | Beyond the Line/Beyond the Self: Flirting with Rural Teaching | Contributor(s): | McConaghy, CE (author); Bloomfield, DM (author) | Publication Date: | 2004 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/757 | Abstract: | The philosopher, Adam Phillips (1994), discusses the productive pleasures of flirtation, the usefulness of a light touch, and the virtue of being un-committed. These qualities he links to Freud's arguments in relation to the value of free-association. Writes Phillips (1994, xii), 'Free association itself is the psychic act of relinquishing, as far as possible, one's slavish devotion to internal censors.' The issue of censors as powers that prevent certain unconscious ideas and memories from emerging into consciousness is relevant to the performance of teaching selves. | Publication Type: | Journal Article | Source of Publication: | Journal of Curriculum Theorizing, 20(3), p. 93-112 | Publisher: | Caddo Gap Press | Place of Publication: | San Francisco, United States of America | ISSN: | 1057-896X | Fields of Research (FoR) 2008: | 130303 Education Assessment and Evaluation | Peer Reviewed: | Yes | HERDC Category Description: | C1 Refereed Article in a Scholarly Journal | Publisher/associated links: | http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P3-749473961.html |
