Title: | Reviewing for HERD: Shaping scholarship in higher education | Contributor(s): | Soliman, Izabel E (author) | Publication Date: | 2009 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/6477 | Abstract: | The reviewing process is central to publication in HERDSA's journal Higher Education Research & Development. In this presentation I explore a number of issues around reviewing: the goals and the importance of the reviewing process, its ethical dimensions, its gate-keeping functions in relation to quality and standards in publication, its power to include and exclude and to thus shape the nature of research in higher education and the knowledge available for practice. I also consider whether gate-keeping can have a conservative function to inhibit the development of new ideas, practices and theories and to work only to confirm what we already know. | Publication Type: | Conference Publication | Conference Details: | HERDSA 2009: 32nd Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia International Conference, Darwin University, Australia, 7th July, 2009 | Source of Publication: | Presented at the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia (HERDSA) 2009 International Teaching and Learning Conference | Fields of Research (FoR) 2008: | 139999 Education not elsewhere classified | Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) 2008: | 939999 Education and Training not elsewhere classified | HERDC Category Description: | E2 Non-Refereed Scholarly Conference Publication | Publisher/associated links: | http://conference.herdsa.org.au/2009/progday2.html http://conference.herdsa.org.au/2009/concurrent03.html#herd |
