Abstract:

This PhD.I study examines experiential learning programs conducted by universities. Presented as a portfolio, this work employs an evidence-based research approach to experiential learning using business/professional/industry-based, short-term international study programs as case studies. It examines their design, organisation and implementation, with critical reflection on experiences and outcomes. The process adopted, together with relevant literature and prior professional practice, provides a foundation for developing, testing and evaluating an innovative approach to experiential learning programs. In addition, the portfolio offers options for wider engagement and collaboration of potential strategic value for the institution.

As a portfolio at the intersection of theory and practice, it faces the challenges of communicating with differing audiences while using relevant and appropriate language. The study not only focusses on institutional evaluation of experiential study tour programs but also considers the role and contribution provided by external professional practitioners.
