Abstract: Comprises the seabed and subsoil extending beyond the territorial sea to the outer edge of the continental margin, or to 200 nautical miles from the territorial sea baseline where the continental margin does not naturally extend that far. Australia has declared a continental shelf. See 'Seas and Submerged Lands Act 1973' (Cth); UN Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982 Art 76. 'See also' AUSTRALIAN WATERS.
