Abstract: A maritime area, adjacent to a state's coastline, over which the state has internationally recognised rights to control fishery resources: see e.g. 'Chiou Yaou Fa v Thomas Morris' (1987) 46 NTR 1. The concept of a fishery zone is now incorporated in the EXCLUSIVE ECONOMIC ZONE under UNCLOS ('see' LAW OF THE SEA CONVENTION). 'See also' AUSTRALIAN FISHING ZONE.
