Abstract
This dataset contain the data collected for Phase 1 (school statistics), Phase 2 (survey data), and Phase 3 (interview transcripts) of this study into the place and purpose of Latin in Australian secondary schools. The Phase 1 data consists of an .xlsx file (Phase1SchoolStatistics) with the details of schools teaching Latin in Australia in 2021, the number of students enrolled in Latin at these schools (where provided), and the formulae for estimating figures of students learning Latin in Australia in 2021. The Phase 2 data consists of an .xlsx file (Phase2SurveyData) with the de-identified survey data collected in 2021-2022 from 1,865 Australian participants who provided information about their attitudes towards Latin and their experiences of learning (where applicable). An accompanying .docx file (Phase2QuantitativeMetadata) provides metadata including variable names, codes, scales of measurement, SPSS syntax used for data wrangling, and the survey instrument. The Phase 3 data consists of 35 .docx files (e.g. Int01Alan), each containing an interview transcript and metadata such as descriptive and reflective field notes.
