Abstract |
A total of 60 cattle (2 cohorts per pad score; 10 cattle per cohort) were habituated to the feedlot and pasture environments. Next they were trained in the Y-maze to learn the direction of the feedlot and pasture and then they were tested twice daily at 08:00 h and 18:00 h over 10 days to assess their choice to either enter a feedlot or pasture. Once the cattle made a choice, they were confined to the chosen environment until the next testing session. IceQubes were used to record lying and stepping behaviours in both environments.
