Abstract: This chapter discusses the universal nature of Islam and diverse ways it is practiced particularly with regards to human rights. Students will explore the relationship between Islam and human rights. Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), Cairo Declaration on Human Rights in Islam and the Rome Declaration on Human Rights in Islam will be discussed. Discussion of principles of human rights in Islam exploring support from Qur'an, as well as examples from 'Hadith' (example set by Prophet Muhammad ('pbuh)) in connection to contemporary practices, which demonstrate how human rights are defined and protected in Islam will also be provided.
