Title: | Magendie, François | Contributor(s): | Albury, William R (author) | Publication Date: | 2007 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/6215 | Abstract: | Magendie was the elder son of Antoine Magendie, a Bordeaux surgeon originally from the Pyrenees region of France, and Marie Nicole de Perey de Launay, a native of Paris. Notwithstanding the aristocratic flavor of Mme Magendie's maiden name, Antoine Magendie was a follower of the egalitarian social philosophy of Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-78), in honor of whom the couple's second son was named Jean-Jacques. There were no other children, and in May 1792, after a prolonged illness, Mme Magendie died in Paris, where the family had relocated during the previous year. | Publication Type: | Entry In Reference Work | Source of Publication: | Dictionary of Medical Biography, v.4: M-R, p. 829-831 | Publisher: | Greenwood Press | Place of Publication: | Westport, United States of America | ISBN: | 0313328773 0313328811 9780313328817 9780313328770 |
