Abstract: England John Shergold was born in Southampton, England on the 20th of September, 1938, to Wesley James Shergold and Josephine Clarice Shergold who later presented John with two younger sisters, Judith and Jean. John's father was in the Royal Engineers during the Second World War, and John and his mother were evacuated twice from Southampton during that conflict; once to Bournemouth, from where they had to walk back to Southampton; and once to Scotland, from where they travelled by train back home, only to be bombed along the way at Crewe.
