Abstract: This chapter describes my (Myfanwy's) experiences as a doctoral student and one of my mentors (Helen) in the application of narrative inquiry methodology to a research study, a study that examined the parental stories of the death by suicide of a young adult child. We have structured the chapter in a manner that allows you as the reader to experience a narrative mode of writing and to think about how to analyze data using this method. As the dialogue is developing, we will take turns in providing you with a view of the research, the analytic process, and the ways in which narrative inquiry can be used with relation to a particular study.
