Abstract |
As has been identified and discussed throughout this book, one of the most common methods of housing provided for in Australia is a fee simple interest in land. However, proprietary rights which are slightly less powerful than those obtained by fee simple are available through other types of ownership in property. Over the last few decades, it has become increasingly common for people to purchase property under a scheme that involves sharing a common interest in property - this is governed by the various jurisdictions' strata title laws. As well as this, the growth of an ageing population enjoying relatively good health has resulted in increased development of housing alternatives such as retirement villages. Finally, it is also useful to consider and discuss the rights and responsibilities that arise between lessors and lessees in relation to residential tenancies as covered in the states' legislation.
