Abstract: This paper proposes a new method to determine the types of function for approximating line segments using an algorithm based on binary search. In the function approximation-based image coding, it is essential that the joint points between different types of line segment be extracted precisely. Through experiments, it is verified that the proposed method extracts straight lines and arcs more precisely than the earlier method.
