Abstract: The paper below outlines the first nine months of my PhD research which seeks to examine the gendering of property and its consequences in rural communities. More specifically the research intends to investigate how this gendering of property has influenced the provision of public housing in rural areas at a time when both rural communities and the allocation of welfare in Australia have been deeply and, on the whole, adversely affected by the neoliberal turn in public policy.
