Abstract:

Dorothy Osborne's letters to her future husband, Sir William Temple, written in 1652–1654, reveal a vivid portrait of her attitudes toward family, marriage, politics, religion, and social convention. The collection is of particular interest for its detailed account of her reading, and her observations about the art of letter writing.
