Abstract:

[2.10] The concepts of corporate governance are at least 700 years from the Swiss cantons, but it was not until the corporate failures of the 1980s and the UK response of the Cadbury Report that modern corporate governance took shape. But a lot has happened since 1992 and the biggest change has been the Internet of Things and the growth in information governance - data is the new gold, and it comes with a lot of complexities and can be unregulated, such as with cryptocurrencies and applications of blockchain technology. This chapter explores these contemporary issues in the light of corporate governance and the growth in information governance, and its impact on government, not-for-profit entities and corporate organisations.
