Abstract: I (John) had decided to quit graduate school. I remember the moment well: the month, where I was, the time of day, the weather. I can recall even minor details of that day now, despite so many other days and moments since then having faded from memory. Quitting school (or anything else) can be a relief, even pleasurable, but it hardly compares with the experience of completing an arduous journey.
