Abstract: 

Hegesistratus was one of the diviners (manteis, sing. mantis) prominent in the PERSIAN WARS, working for the Persian commander MARDONIUS. He belonged to the TELLIADAE clan of diviners from ELIS, claiming descent from the presumably mythical TELLIAS.
