Abstract

Pederasty, the love of an older male (erastēs, the lover) for a younger male in his pre-or nearly pubescent state (eromenos, the beloved), was a Greek sexual phenomenon, particularly characteristic of SPARTA where it was anal in orientation and connected with military training and pedagaogic motivation; it was practiced at ATHENS among aristocrats but took an intercrural form there (see below).
