Title: | Exploring International Perspectives of Scientific Literacy: An Overview of the Special Issue | Contributor(s): | Coll, Richard K (author); Taylor, Neil (author) | Publication Date: | 2009 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/4430 | Abstract: | Scientific literacy has become something of a catch cry in science education circles worldwide. The nature of scientific literacy and how scientific literacy is developed and enacted in classrooms is explored in this special issue. An overview of the papers presented in this special issue suggests that many authors struggle to clearly define scientific literacy, and that its use in science education is muddled. We argue here that educators and curriculum developers first need to contextualize the notion of scientific literacy in their own particular educational setting before considering how it might advance science education. | Publication Type: | Journal Article | Source of Publication: | International Journal of Environmental and Science Education, 4(3), p. 197-200 | Publisher: | International Journal of Environmental and Science Education | Place of Publication: | Turkey | ISSN: | 1306-3065 | Fields of Research (FoR) 2008: | 139999 Education not elsewhere classified | Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) 2008: | 939999 Education and Training not elsewhere classified | Peer Reviewed: | Yes | HERDC Category Description: | C1 Refereed Article in a Scholarly Journal | Publisher/associated links: | http://www.ijese.com/V4N3.htm |
