Title: | Globalisation of Counsellor Education: A dialogic approach to preserving cultural identity along with intercultural dimensions in teaching | Contributor(s): | Moir-Bussy, Ann (author); Sun, Catherine (author) | Publication Date: | 2006 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/4213 | Abstract: | In an increasingly interdependent world education in all fields plays an important role. Among the disciplines counsellor education is gaining recognition for its capacity to support those who encounter the complexities and confusion brought about in this era of rapid change and globalisation. In different societies varying degrees of global integration and dramatic internal change are impacting on the knowledge and values of cultures. While much has been written about multicultural counselling, very few writings speak of the processes that enrich reconceptualisation and transformation of knowledge and values in particular cultures. This paper will enlarge on my recent PhD research that demonstrates that what begins as a natural unconscious process of reconceptualisation must be transformed into a conscious integration of ideas through dialogic encounters. The findings provide insights for intercultural dimensions in teaching across disciplines. | Publication Type: | Conference Publication | Conference Details: | ANZCIES 2006: 34th Annual Australian and New Zealand Comparative and International Education Society Conference, Canberra, Australia, 30th November - 4th December, 2006 | Source of Publication: | Global Governance, Educational Change and Cultural Ecology: Proceedings of the 34th Annual Conference of The Australian and New Zealand Comparative and International Education Society, p. 192-208 | Publisher: | University of New England, Centre for Research on International Education and Sustainability | Place of Publication: | Armidale, Australia | Fields of Research (FoR) 2008: | 200209 Multicultural, Intercultural and Cross-cultural Studies | Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) 2008: | 959999 Cultural Understanding not elsewhere classified | Peer Reviewed: | Yes | HERDC Category Description: | E1 Refereed Scholarly Conference Publication | Publisher/associated links: | http://trove.nla.gov.au/work/25172547?selectedversion=NBD41104030 |
