Abstract
The Australian Study of Health Relationships (ASHR) has made an invaluable contribution to advancing knowledge about sex in Australia. The researchers and their respective organisations – the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society at La Trobe University, the National Centre in HIV Social Research and the National Centre in HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research at the University of New South Wales, and the Central Sydney Area Health Service – are to be congratulated in successfully carrying out this important national study. Having said that, one of the aims of the study and the collection of papers recently published in your Journal (vol 21, no. 2, 2003) is to inform and initiate critical debate and discussion about sex in Australia. It is for this reason that we write this letter as a contribution to this dialogue.
