English Abstract: The only book of its period to describe the daily life of actors and the organisation of the Paris theatre companies, Le Théâtre françois is a text which is often quoted but rarely read in its entirety. This first critical edition is based on the unpublished autograph manuscript which Samuel prepared in 1673 and dedicated to the brand-new company at the Hôtel Guénégaud theatre. In addition, the edition includes an introduction, over 500 notes, and variants from the first edition (Lyon and Paris, 1674).
