Research support for academic acceleration has been made accessible through the publication of 'A Nation Deceived' (Colangelo et al., 2004), albeit, with due respect to the authors, an Australian 'translation' is needed. There is a small but well-documented body of research concerning radical acceleration in the sense of whole-grade advancement or grade skipping by more than one year (Gross & van Vliet, 2003). Issues surrounding radical acceleration in a single subject area are less well known, and this article seeks to begin to address that problem.en
