Abstract: Bridge to the Island depicts a queer, non-normative white woman trapped running a regional town’s main tourist attraction: an historical horse and carriage that travels over a bridge between the mainland and an island off the coast. The main character’s liminal status on this uncanny anachronism—both local and tourist—as well as her attraction to one of the women on the ride, make her a target for masculine violence represented in their mistreatment of the island’s fauna.
