Abstract |
Free-range hens that access the range frequently are not only less likely to obtain their formulated feed intake, they are also assumed to experience higher energy loss due to increased locomotion and maintaining temperature homeostasis. Offering the same diet to all hens as commonly performed ignores the different individual hen requirements and may result in reduced hen welfare and production. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of 3 different feeding strategies on tibia bone health and range usage in hens that are known to range frequently.
