Abstract: Understanding range usage of free-range laying hens is essential to address the needs of the hens and apply feeding strategies most efficiently. While heavier hens might be of increased social status and therefore dominate range access after pop hole opening, lighter hens may still access the range at different times of the day. The objective of this study was to determine the impact of body weight on diurnal range usage and the latency to range.
