Abstract: Rural nursing is a dynamic and rewarding area of nursing practice that offers many unique professional experiences If you have had little personal experience of living in the country, understanding how rurality shapes nursing practice and the health of these communities is a challenging task. This chapter is focused upon the health of rural and remote communities and the multifaceted nature of living in these locations. In this context, the scope of practice, challenges and rewards of rural nursing are outlined.
